Clare Maceachen
Carer Governor
Clare has been actively involved with Birmingham Children’s Hospital since her son was born with blocked bile ducts in 2011. She spent many weeks living on Ward 8 where he had two liver transplants before his fifth birthday.
The second of these saw Clare’s husband donate to their son as a living donor. She and her family have always received first class care at the hospital. Because of this, Clare is passionate about raising the profile of the hospital, in particular with relation to the importance of the organ donor register and also of living donor transplantation.
Clare is a teacher of Mathematics at a large Shropshire school. Before this she worked as an analyst for the MoD and NATO. She and her family are part of the hospital’s British Transplant Games team.
