Matthew Boazman

Matt has held a number of senior operational and strategic roles since joining the NHS in 2002 via the Graduate Management Training Scheme. He started his career working within maternity and children's services in Kent, before moving to the Aids Committee of Toronto in Canada. In 2004, he joined the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust based in North London as a General Manager, before going on to become Director of Operations for the Trust in 2011 and Director of Operations for Whittington Health when it merged with the local community NHS Trust.
Matthew joined Birmingham Children’s Hospital in 2013 as Director of Strategy and Planning before becoming Birmingham Women's and Children's Chief Officer for Strategy and Innovation in 2015, Deputy Chief Executive in 2022 and was appointed as Trust Chief Executive in 2023.
He holds several wider leadership roles and is currently the Chair of the Central and South Genomics Medicine Service, providing genomics medicine services for people across the West Midlands, Oxfordshire and Wessex. He is also the Chair of the Birmingham and Solihull Children's Health Board, an Executive Board member of Birmingham Health Partners and has recently been appointed as the co-Chair of the national Children’s Hospital Alliance, a national network of specialist NHS trusts working together to improve the quality, access and experience of hospital care for children and families.
Matt was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Aston University in July 2025 for his significant contributions to healthcare, research partnerships, and creating clinical opportunities for Aston medical students.
