Sukhjit in the lab in front of two machines Explain what your job entails?

I work in Haematology and Blood transfusion lab. My job role entails processing samples to aid in diagnosis of Haematological disorders such as leukaemia. I am also involved in issuing blood products and combability testing in Blood Bank.

Why did you choose your career?

I have always been passionate in helping people and wanted to have a career that reflected this. I did a work experience day at George Elliot hospital where I got to see the pathology labs. I really enjoyed my day and this made me want to pursue a career working in the labs.

What do you love about your job?

I love working together as a team to help patients with their needs, whether this involves issuing blood for their transfusion or if it's finding a new diagnosis of a disease. I think it's fantastic to be involved in something that could effectively change a person's life. It's a very rewarding job and I am proud to be working at BCH where we are helping children with their diagnosis.

Let us know something that a lot of people don’t know about your job?

It can be quite a demanding job both physically and mentally. Working in the lab requires intense concentration and the ability to multitask. However, being able to work as a team ensures you receive as much support as possible.
