Mr James Castleman, Consultant in Maternal and Fetal Medicine won the coveted Moment of Magic title in the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s (BWC) NHS Foundation Trust’s Spirit Awards.

The medic, who celebrated alongside other winners in 13 different categories, had been highlighted for the support and care he provided to an expectant mum who was facing complications in her pregnancy.

He went beyond his role, consulting a London specialist for the latest statistics – and helping to secure a neonatal intensive care bed on his day off for the baby once delivered.

James said: “It’s an incredible honour to be recognised as the Moment of Magic winner. We make the care of our patients our utmost priority, so to be able to help someone in need at any time is a great privilege.
