Know a young person interested in pursuing a medical career? Join the Young Research Champion Group
We’re launching our first event for the National Institute of Healthcare Research (NIHR)’s Young Research Champions (YRC), inviting young people to join our Children’s Hospital Clinical Research Facility (CRF).
Meeting every six weeks, we’re inviting budding scientists and researchers to join in with the action at our hospital, where they can meet other young like-minded people in educational development.
We will be hosting our launch meeting on Saturday 29 October from 2pm until 5pm at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Clinical Research Facility on ground floor, open to all young people of all ages.
Young people can approach our team lead directly or parents and teachers are welcome to reach out on their behalf. If you are in the process of filling out your UKAS application, this may be a fantastic addition to pan out your personal statement, as well as gain fantastic experience working with our clinicians and team members at our Children’s Hospital.

We caught up with a previous member of the group who has used his experience with us to further his career development in the field of neurosurgery.
Going on to qualify as a Paediatric Neurosurgeon – Rehman’s story
Many of our young people go on to pursue careers in the medical field following their placements, after developing life-long friendships and improving their confidence.
One of our previous recruits, Rehman went on to qualify as a Rehman said:
“The fact that I was able to help other children and other young people with my friends made me feel like a superhero, we were Birmingham’s version of the Avengers.
“I am blessed with the opportunity to be working here. Without the skills I used daily at the group, I would not have matured, I’m very grateful that I had the prospects to be a part of this group.”
