Who can use MyChart?

MyChart BWC is available to patients receiving care at our trust. Patients aged 13 and over can have their own account with parental or guardian consent. For children under 13, direct access is not available, but a parent or guardian can be granted proxy access by the clinic until the child turns 16. From age 16 onwards, proxy access for family members or caregivers requires the patient's consent.

Access and Usage

Proxy access for parents, guardians and carers

If you're a parent, guardian or carer for someone having care at one of our hospitals you can help manage a patient's care on MyChart using proxy access. This means you'll get your own MyChart login, but it will show the health information of the person you're responsible for.

If you're caring for someone under 18

  • 12 years old and younger – your child cannot have their own MyChart login, but you can sign up for a MyChart account to see their health information.
  • 13 to 18 years old – your child can ask for their own MyChart login. You can also ask for proxy access to see your child's health information.

Speak to your healthcare team to request proxy access. They can
send you an activation code. Once you have an activation code,
follow the steps in 'How to sign up to MyChart' to complete your
account.

If you're caring for someone over 18

Adults can give you proxy access through their MyChart account. Speak to their healthcare team to find out more.

Removing proxy access

If you have proxy access to your child's MyChart account when they turn 13, they can ask to have you removed. Their doctor will need to make this change. Proxy access will automatically be removed when your child turns 18.

Sometimes proxy access might stay in place. Your healthcare team will talk to you about this.

If you're over 18 you can change who has proxy access to your information by logging into MyChart.

Who else will have access to my child's healthcare information?

The patient, any appointed proxies and any healthcare team outside of BWC that the patient/family share the record with.

Can I see all my records and test results?

You can view a range of medical records, including recent visits, test results, medications, and immunisations. Some sensitive information may not be available online.

Most test results are available once they are reviewed by your doctor.

How do I message my doctor?

You can send a secure message to your healthcare team via MyChart BWC. However, this should not be used for urgent medical concerns — please call your clinic or NHS 111 if needed.

Can I get repeat prescriptions?

This is not a function that we offer at this time, however, MyChart BWC will list all your medications and doses.

Can I change an appointment or let you know I cannot make it?

Yes, MyChart BWC will allow you to message the trust and let us know if the appointment is not suitable or if you cannot attend.

Can I update my contact details?

Yes, you can update your address, phone number, and email within MyChart BWC to ensure your records stay up to date.
