Who can use MyChart?

MyChart BWC is available to patients receiving care at our trust. Patients aged 11 and over can have their own account with parental or guardian consent. For children under 11, direct access is not available, but a parent or guardian can be granted proxy access by the clinic until the child turns 16. From age 16 onwards, proxy access for family members or caregivers requires the patient's consent.

How to sign up to MyChart

We'll invite you to sign up to MyChart if you have care with us at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC).

To create a MyChart account you will need an activation code.

We might:

  • Send you an activation code in an appointment letter or text or email from us with a built-in link for immediate activation
  • Give you an activation code before or during your appointment
  • Give you an activation code at a check-in kiosk when you come
    for an appointment

Or you can sign up to MyChart from your mobile, tablet or computer in advance of a visit. But it may take a little longer to receive the activation code. If your personal details (e.g. name, address, mobile number etc) have changed, this can delay your activation for MyChart account. Inform your GP of your new contact details or contact your clinic at the hospital.

Click here to request a code for yourself if you are a patient over 16 years old.

Click here to request a code for proxy access to a MyChart account for patients under 16.

Please note that receiving a code may take up to 30 working days but may be sooner. However, if you visit us for an appointment, it may be possible to activate your MyChart account directly in the clinic.

Proxy access for parents, guardians and carers

If you're a parent, guardian or carer for someone having care at one of our hospitals you can help manage a patient's care on MyChart using proxy access. This means you'll get your own MyChart login, but it will show the health information of the person you're responsible for. If all the information is correctly provided to the Patient Records Team, then the proxy access can take up to thirty days to be activated.

If you're caring for someone under 16

  • 10 years old and younger – your child cannot have their own MyChart login, but you can sign up for a MyChart account to see their health information.
  • 11 years old and 12 years old – can have access to MyChart login with parental consent and proxy access enabled.
  • 13 to 16 years old – your child can ask for their own MyChart login. You can also ask for proxy access to see your child's health information.
  • Speak to your healthcare team to request proxy access. They can send you an activation code. Once you have an activation code, follow the steps in How to sign up to MyChart (page 4) to complete your account.

If you're caring for someone over 16

Adults can give you proxy access through their MyChart account. Speak to their healthcare team to find out more.

Removing proxy access

If you have proxy access to your child's MyChart account when they turn 13, they can ask to have you removed. Their doctor will need to make this change. Proxy access will automatically be removed when your child turns 16.

Sometimes proxy access might stay in place. Your healthcare team will talk to you about this

Other Healthcare Apps

Your GP surgery may have its own app or may use the NHS App for your primary care healthcare needs.

Other hospital groups may have their own Apps (e.g. MyCare, MyHealth).

Our Trust also uses Badgernet for maternity access across the local healthcare system.

Your use of MyChart will complement these.

We will continue to send DrDoctor texts to remind you of appointments, or letters by post if you require them.
