Major Trauma Coordination Team
Major trauma injuries are rare and complicated to manage. Injuries include serious broken bones, head, spine or internal organ injuries. Patients will be taken to or transferred to a Major trauma centre as these hospitals will have all the specialist teams required.
Major trauma centres operate 24 hours, 7 days a week.
What to expect
Our role is to be a "key worker" for patients and their families.
We will:
- provide information, advice and support both during and after patients' stay
- help coordinate their care.
Each key worker will meet with patients and their families within the first 48 hours of their admission to talk about their treatment and start to develop a rehabilitation plan.
To deliver the best care, we may need to contact professionals within the hospital and the community. This will give us a clear picture of your child’s needs and how they can be well supported.
