Front of House Transformation - Main Entrance Closed
Work to transform the front entrance of our Children’s Hospital, supported by our Charity and generous supporters through the £3million ‘It Starts Here Appeal’, has started.
The project, which is due to be completed by the end of 2026, will turn the space, last updated more than three decades ago, from being cramped, dull and unwelcoming into an area that reflects the world-class care that takes place beyond it.
For the duration of the project, the hospital’s main entrance on Steelhouse Lane will be closed.
Our Emergency Department Waiting Area has moved. It's now located on the ground floor of our new Loveday Street Clinical Building next door to its previous location.
To access it and our Medicine Chest Outpatient Pharmacy, please use the entrance door to the new building off Steelhouse Lane. Directional signage is in place on-site.
What you will need to do when coming to us
We’re asking our patients, loved ones and visitors to use alternative entrances and exits. Do also leave a little more time to get to your appointments.
You can use:
- Matron’s Garden, which is near Whittall Street/Steelhouse Lane junction and clearly signed as you approach our site. Access available 7am – 7pm, Monday to Sunday.
- Waterfall House, on Whittall Street, opposite the Royal Angus NCP Car Park.
Please note, access to Parson’s House, which includes Surgical Day Care, Ward 15, Ward 15 Annex, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Clinical Decision Unit and Medical High Dependency Unit, can only be made through our main hospital routes of Matron’s Garden and Waterfall House (detailed above).
All signage, both inside and outside our hospital, has been updated to reflect the changes and volunteers will be on hand to help people navigate to our wards and departments.
Once completed, our new front entrance will be more child-friendly and feel less daunting.
It will be a space where those we care for and their loved ones can go to decompress or spend some time with their children before or after appointments. It will help make our hospital a more fun, enriching and joyful place to be – easing stress and anxiety.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
