Caring for our Muslim patients and families
At our Children's Hospital we are passionate about providing effective care for our Muslim patients and families. Our demographics show that over a third of our patients and families follow the Islamic faith, we endeavour to provide for their specific needs and make their stay in hospital as comfortable and smooth as possible.
We have Muslim chaplains and Imams who visit the wards and can be called upon through the Chaplaincy office number 0121 333 8526/7. The Chaplains can provide religious, pastoral and spiritual care. What do Chaplains do?
We have a Prayer room which contains a Wudu area (video) that is situated on the first floor with provision for both sisters and brothers and we also have two congregations of Jummah prayers every Friday.
We celebrate the two Eid festivals (pictures and videos) and provide special care during Ramadan when we often have generous donations of gifts (pictures) and food bags for iftari (time of opening the fast) given by charities and individuals.
Our hospital restaurant and ward menus provide halal and vegetarian food options. Each ward has a parent’s room with a fridge, microwave and tea facilities.
A child’s illness can be a very difficult and an emotionally charged time. We understand that at these times people may turn to their faith for comfort and guidance. We have produced a leaflet 'Your Child in Hospital' for Muslims which may offer some solace and direction.
Our staff will be most happy to discuss any specific needs you may have and will be happy to accommodate or put you in touch with the right person to help you.
Please see 360 video below for further information.
Please note that the artefacts in the room will not automatically be provided these are the things that you may wish to take with you or you can ask Chaplaincy if they can provide it.
